Glen Rock is a relatively small community of approximately 11,000 residents in only an area of about 2.7 square miles. Located just 22 miles west of New York City makes it easy for commuting to New York City for work or for pleasure, yet allows the enjoyment of a small town. With its beautiful tree lined streets, Glen Rock is a vibrant, thriving town comprised of residents of many different ages, backgrounds and interests.

Shopping & Dining

Glen Rock's commercial activity stretches along Rock Road, which has a mix of local shops and restaurants, a Starbucks and an in-town grocery store, Kilroy's Wonder Market. The Chamber of Commerce and Central Business District are active in beautifying the downtown area, hosting the Family Fun Fair and holiday activities.

Getting Around

The downtown is within walking distance of many of the residential neighborhoods. Commuters can choose from two train stations traveling on two routes: the Glen Rock Main Line station on New Jersey Transit's Main Line route, or the Glen Rock Borough Hall station, on the Bergen County Line. Both lines converge in Secaucus, where riders can transfer to New York's Penn Station, or continue to Hoboken, to transfer to Lower Manhattan.

Education

The town is well known for its excellent school system. For kindergarten through fifth grade, there are four elementary schools, sixth to eighth graders attend Glen Rock Middle School, then go on to Glen Rock High School. A $45 million renovation to the high school added a new wing for science, technology, engineering and mathematics and new arts facilities.

Community

There are many active groups for adults & youth in sports, the arts, community service, special groups for senior citizens and with the many faith based communities located in town. New residents often join the Newcomers Club, which was renamed the Newcomers and Neighbors club because transplants didn't want to leave the group after living in town for a while. The group's events include ladies' nights out, couples' evenings and children's activities.

Parks & Recreation

The municipal pool is a popular gathering place in the summer, as is the 11-acre Thielke Arboretum of Glen Rock, with nature trails and a spring-fed pond. A portion of Saddle River County Park lies within Glen Rock borders, with bike paths and tennis.
