When it’s cold and snowy, as we recently experienced, Netflix can be a great escape, but I happen to think books are even better. That’s one reason why I love the Ridgewood Public Library!

While I very much enjoy spending time browsing the shelves, our current conditions have led to the temporary suspension of in-person visits. However, the helpful and always friendly librarians are still providing book recommendations online or by phone. Once you choose what you like, simply place a request and pick up in the lobby.

I have been going to the library since my kids were born and the staff feels like family. There are always exhibits of art, books, toy collections, etc. I can’t wait to go back!

The library also runs a number of programs throughout the year. There are book clubs, tech classes, contests and more! Many of these are funded by the Friends of the Ridgewood Library through donations and one of their biggest fundraisers is happening right now.

February is Reading Marathon month! All Ridgewood children (PreK-Gr. 8) are welcome to participate and no registration is required. You can use the trackers provided on the library’s website or through your school to track reading for the month of Feb. and, at the end of the month, submit the online form to let them know how much you read. No need to return paper forms to school this year. Every submission is eligible for prizes, such as a coupon for a free ice cream cone from Ben & Jerry’s (Ridgewood, NJ) or a pair of Beats headphones. On the Reading Marathon website you’ll also find a list of fun events taking place throughout the month.
