Last night I had the wonderful opportunity to do a few of my favorite things. I got to meet members in my community that I have not had the pleasure of meeting before, have specialty cocktails in cute little wine glasses and craft – all while walking around downtown Ridgewood!
Last year, a friend of mine had a vision. She aimed to get neighbors out to talk, visit and get to know one another. She wanted people to learn about what our downtown has to offer in terms of shops, restaurants and services and she wanted people to really understand that our community is walkable!
As a result, she created something called Ridgewood Walks, a program that uses volunteers to set up different walks around town. There are history walks, graveyard tours, school tours and shopping walks. Whatever type of walk a volunteer decides to put together is the type of walk that will be offered. As you can imagine, Ridgewood Walks has become a huge success.
I was fortunate enough to lead a tour of three crafting businesses last night. We started at Pinot’s Pallet, where we created a Halloween canvas. Next, we went to AR Workshop and created a seasonal wood craft. Finally, we decorated Christmas decorations at Color Me Mine. As we toured the shops, we got to know one another. Conversations centered on high school sports, after school jobs, nail art, cupcakes… you name it! It was a very enjoyable evening sponsored by some very generous downtown businesses and enjoyed by 20 new, fast friends!
